Job Title: Structural Steel Fitter
Location: Turlock, CA
Hourly Pay Range: $23.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience
Shift / Hours: Monday–Friday, 1:00 PM–11:30 PM; 10-hour shifts

Job Summary

Balance Staffing is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fitter to support a fabrication team in Turlock, CA. This position involves reading fabrication drawings, measuring and laying out structural steel, fitting components, and preparing assemblies for final welding while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication drawings.

• Measure and lay out structural steel using tape measures, squares, levels, and other measuring tools.

• Fit and assemble beams, columns, plates, channels, angles, brackets, and other structural components.

• Use clamps, come-alongs, grinders, and torches to position and prepare materials.

• Check dimensions, angles, alignment, and tolerances against specifications.

• Tack-weld components in preparation for final welding.

• Identify and correct fit-up, alignment, and dimensional issues.

• Safely operate hand and power tools.

• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Structural Steel Fitter, Steel Fitter, or Fabricator.

• Ability to read fabrication drawings and accurately measure, lay out, and align steel components.

• Knowledge of structural steel fit-up and fabrication practices.

• Experience with tack welding and common fabrication tools.

• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.

• Ability to work independently and meet quality expectations.

• Availability to work the listed schedule, subject to applicable leave and accommodation requirements.

• Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Essential duties involve standing and walking for extended periods; bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing; and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment. These duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work takes place in an industrial fabrication environment around heavy steel, welding operations, machinery, heat, and sparks. Required personal protective equipment and safety procedures must be followed.
