Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical

Location

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Every other weekend required (Saturday & Sunday) | Holiday rotation required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a 63-bed Surgical Acute unit, including post-operative surgical patients, trauma patients, and overflow medical patients
• Perform wound care and dressing changes, IV therapy, pain management, and management of drains, nasogastric tubes, central lines, and TPN
• Manage inhalers and place patients on CPAP as needed; collaborate with Respiratory Therapy for nebulizer treatments
• Administer and monitor set-rate drips (Heparin); titration of drips is not required
• Work within a nurse-to-patient ratio of 5–6 patients per RN on nights, collaborating with PCTs and a dedicated charge RN on every shift
• Float to units of equivalent experience level as needed; travelers are first to float

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in post-operative patient care with strong critical thinking skills
• Familiarity with telemetry monitoring (Phillips monitors on unit; strip reading handled by central monitor techs)
• Experience with EPIC electronic health records
• Strong bedside manner and demonstrated ability to function as a team player
