PS Genetic Counselor Job Summary The Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Genetic Counselor. This position is responsible for providing information and support to families who have members with birth defects, genetic disorders or who may be at risk for a variety of inherited cardiac conditions. This care provider identifies, investigates, interprets, and communicates potential risk factors and provides support and counseling to families and care team members. This job has both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description. Essential Functions Utilize specific, detailed knowledge of genetics and act as a consultant with applicable patient care specialists and referring care providers in providing professional options for the development of a collaborative plan of care. This may include providing recommendations for screening and evaluation for the patient and family members in addition to providing individualized patient and family education, emotional support, and counseling. Provide grief and crisis counseling as needed. Desire to work in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Evaluate complex medical and genetic literature and incorporate it into clinical practice. Provide clinical genetic counseling and care coordination within a busy genetics clinic staffed with a geneticist twice monthly. Oversee and/or answer questions regarding genetic testing and counseling consultations, as directed by the Division of Pediatric Cardiology. Clear, intentional, and thoughtful communication with team members is necessary. Engage in research activities related to the field of cardiovascular genetics and genetic counseling. This includes support within the division for ongoing research efforts as well as a team and individually initiated research involving cardiovascular genetics. Desire to engage in CV genetics program growth and development of operations and procedures to support the growing need for genetics within the division of cardiology. Support and display equitable care to all patient groups and develop care models that increase genetic counseling and testing equity. Working Conditions and Physical Demands Employees must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation. Minimum Qualifications Required:

• Current license as a Genetic Counselor in the State of Utah.
• Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
