Registered Nurse - Pediatric Psych

Immediate start needed. Interviews will be conducted for candidates, followed by manager approval. Floating between pediatric and adult units will be required as needed. This is a free-standing acute inpatient facility. All patients come from emergency departments and are medically cleared. Involuntary and voluntary admissions are accepted. Patients range in age from 5 to adult and geriatric. Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria. Common adult diagnoses include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and eating disorders. Occasionally, patients may present with substance use disorder or detoxing patients, but they must be medically cleared. The facility provides a range of traditional medical and psychiatric care, as well as specialized therapies including pet therapy and group sessions. Patient ratios are 1:5-6 during the day for RNs and 1:13 at night, with resource support. Nurse supervisors are available on evenings and weekends, and the nurse manager is open to addressing any issues. Charge nurse may have a patient assignment during shifts, and psych tech support is also provided. Nurse practitioners are available on-site until 4 PM and then on-call overnight. Psychiatrists conduct daily rounds and are available on-call. An occupational therapist is present seven days a week from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. Security staff does not respond to patient escalations, as all unit staff, including technicians and nurses, manage these situations. The charting system used is Cerner, and medication administration involves Pyxis. Floating may occur between both pediatric and adult units. If a traveler is not comfortable with floating to pediatrics, manager approval may be necessary. Weekend rotations are every other week, and holiday work is expected in rotation. Approval for time off is limited, and shifts are scheduled based on traveler sign-ups. Scrub colors must be solid and professional. During winter, heavy snow conditions are expected. In the event of an escalation, a code leader will assign roles to staff while de-escalating the patient. Travelers could serve as code leaders and should express any need for additional practice with de-escalation techniques. Scenario-based training occurs bi-weekly for skill refinement.
