Chief Development OfficerLocation: Washington, D.C., USCompany: The League of United Latin American CitizensIndustry/Sector: Non-ProfitPosition Title: Chief Development OfficerLocation: Washington, D.C. / National HeadquartersReports to: Chief Executive OfficerWe are seeking an experienced, energetic and highly organized Chief Development Officer (CDO) to develop and implement a strategic development plan. This is a key role in helping to grow the organization. The successful candidate will be analytical and creative, collaborate, coordinate and manage multiple projects. The CDO plays a vital role in the leadership of the organization as part of the organization's Executive Team.Organization: The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is a non-profit organization and serves as the nation's largest and oldest civil rights volunteer-based organization that empowers Hispanic Americans and builds strong Latino communities. Headquartered in Washington, DC, with over 1,000 councils around the United States and Puerto Rico, LULAC's programs, services and advocacy address the most important issues for Latinos, meeting critical needs of today and the future.Essential Functions: The CDO provides strategic leadership for the planning, implementation, evaluation, integration, and administration of the development department. The CDO is responsible for achieving the organization's revenue goals, increasing income, and educating and engaging more individuals and institutions in the to advance the organization's mission. The CDO is part of a skilled team of professionals working to raise at least $10 million annually. The CDO manages a multi-faceted fundraising program; central to this role will be prioritizing personal solicitation of major donors, events, online and direct marketing, and foundation fundraising.Duties:Work closely with the CEO to establish fundraising goals, set strategic priorities, advise on program development, and develop and meet annual budgetWork closely in collaboration with the Boards of Directors to engage them more deeply in the fundraising process and to help cultivate a strong relationship between board members and the organizationTracks cultivation and prospecting activity and ensure the execution of action itemsSolicit contributions from major individual donors and steward long-term relationships with donorsDevelop relationships with prospective individuals and foundation donors to increase fundingResearch prospective institutional and individual fundersWorks with internal partners to draft and edit proposals and reportsTracks proposal and reporting deadlines, ensure that all submitted materials are accurate and comply with any funder requirementsManages all grant activity in a central database and deliver regular reports to the CEOServes as the point person for management and maintenance of funders database and ensure efficient system utilization across all unitsOversee the implementation of ongoing programs to improve the renewal rates of existing annual donors, creatively use events to upgrade donors and maintain a diversity of revenueDevelops annual budgets and income projectionsMaintains abreast of political and philanthropic trends and ensure that Board and staff are informed of changes in legislation and other trends and initiatives that might impact givingEducation:Bachelor's degree plus 7+ years fundraising experienceProven success in securing foundation and individual donor supportExperience managing a team, including experience in creating and managing successful major gifts programsA clear understanding of 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) nonprofit legal issues/structures.Well-developed writing, interpersonal and organizational skills and experience managing staff.Commitment to organization's mission and understanding of current policy issues and political landscape.Demonstrated ability to work effectively with, and quickly gain the respect and support of, various constituencies, including a visible chief executive committed to raising money, established development management team, active board members, other senior leadership, program directors and donors.Experience as an effective communicator who is articulate and persuasive in both the spoken and written word; must be adept at crafting materials and making presentations to a variety of audiences.Experience: Competencies:Experience in fundraising and achieving corporate sponsorships.Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Excellent interpersonal skills.Expertise in conducting research for potential donors.Skills in conducting analysis and industry trendsFull/Part Time: Full TimePaid? YesContact:Work Environment: This job operates in a typical office setting. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a permanent full-time position. This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work. Travel Requirements: This position may at times require frequent travel throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Salary Range: $100,000-$120,000/year Commensurate according to years of experience. All employees must meet a 6-month probationary period. Continuation of this position after one year is dependent on the successful candidate meeting jointly determined performance goals.
