Position Overview
A growing construction organization is seeking an experienced MEP Field Coordinator to oversee field activities and support the successful execution of complex construction and renovation projects. This individual will serve as a key point of coordination between the owner, project management team, design professionals, contractors, and field personnel.
The MEP Field Coordinator will provide on-site oversight of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, equipment, and control system installations while ensuring projects remain aligned with approved budgets, schedules, quality standards, and applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
This position will work closely with the owner's facilities team and may involve oversight of specialized industrial systems and equipment. Travel of up to 30% may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and existing building/system configurations to support the installation of new MEP and industrial systems.
- Develop and coordinate installation schedules while minimizing disruption to ongoing operations.
- Provide field oversight of multiple contractors and subcontractors, ensuring work is completed according to project plans, specifications, and quality expectations.
- Oversee equipment and system testing, startup, commissioning, and project turnover.
- Participate in project closeout meetings with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Manage and maintain project documentation, including submittals, change orders, as-built drawings, punch lists, and other contract documents.
- Partner with the Project Manager to maintain project plans, schedules, milestones, and overall execution strategies.
- Track field-related action items, including contractor safety meetings, daily reports, weather conditions, punch list activities, and completion status.
- Maintain project records through construction management and document management software.
- Participate in quality control reviews, including building envelope and other construction-related reviews.
- Review contractor QA/QC documentation and assist in ensuring compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate activities between multiple contractors and trades to prevent conflicts, delays, or disruptions.
- Maintain strong working relationships with owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and field personnel.
- Maintain observation reports, daily reports, progress photos, and other field documentation.
- Assist with reviewing contractor pay applications, percentage-of-completion documentation, and material invoices.
- Participate in pre-construction meetings and help identify site-specific issues, logistics concerns, and potential challenges.
- Coordinate punch list activities while minimizing disruption to building occupants and ongoing operations.
- Review design documents for constructability, logistics, coordination, and quality considerations.
- Assist with defining project boundaries, pedestrian safety plans, signage, staging areas, and site logistics.
- Assist in developing individual trade scopes of work and coordinating responsibilities across project teams.
- Work with project management and preconstruction teams to incorporate constructability feedback into contract documents.
- Assist in establishing construction milestones and incorporating them into project schedules.
- Support project closeout by reviewing required documentation and ensuring outstanding items are completed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Building Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience providing on-site construction management or field coordination for new construction and/or large-scale renovation projects.
- Experience with complex industrial, commercial, or institutional construction projects strongly preferred.
- Experience working in secure, highly regulated, or operationally sensitive environments is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction/document management platforms such as Procore.
- Familiarity with construction scheduling software such as Primavera P6, SureTrak, or Microsoft Project.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, scheduling, quality control, and field coordination.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple contractors and project stakeholders.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to travel up to 30% as needed.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position requires a combination of office and active construction-site work. The employee may be exposed to varying weather and temperature conditions and may travel between project locations.
The role requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods, walk active construction sites, and occasionally bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, lift, carry, push, or pull light to moderate materials. The ability to communicate effectively and safely navigate construction environments is essential.
