Certified Surgical Technologist Lead

Job Description Job Summary and Responsibilities As our Certified Surgical Tech Lead, you will help drive the smooth daily operations of the operating rooms, coordinating supplies, instruments, and activities across all surgical specialty service lines. Every day, you will prepare rooms and assemble necessary supplies and instruments for specialty procedures, maintain vendor relationships and physician preferences, and step in to cover specialty service in the absence of the Charge Nurse. You will also serve as a clinical expert and mentor, training and orienting new staff on procedures, equipment, and emerging technology and practices, while performing all scrub role functions as a positive role model for best practice. To be successful in this role, you will need advanced clinical expertise across surgical specialties, strong leadership and training skills, sound judgment to step into charge responsibilities when needed, and active participation in strategic planning and implementation. Ensures compliance, provides coaching and monitors staff to ensure they are adhering to CMS and Joint Commission standards to include core measures, AORN, AST, and AAMI standards. Serves as patient advocate and provides patient care when required. Ensures quality checks (COR cart, etc.) and participates in quality audits and process improvement. Facilitates smooth and efficient running of surgical schedule as related to surgical techs. Collaborates and assists leadership of the department with staff meetings and agendas. Identifies any potential patient safety issues. We are offering up to $10,000 relocation assistance to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements Schedule: 36hrs/ Week -Variable days per surgical volume and current unit needs Call Required-Approx 5 call shifts in 6 weeks –1900-0700 weeknights and 700-1900, 1900-0700 on weekends 30min Callback radius required. Sleep rooms available Job Requirements Required High School Diploma or GED Completion of an approved course for Surgical Technologist Two (2) Years O.R. experience Current Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Current registration with the state of employment Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist. A person performing Surgical Tech functions within the scope of another state of employment license, certification, or registration does not need to register as a Surgical Tech. UT not required. Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Preferred Previous Leadership Roles Where You'll Work As a Certified Surgical Technologist Lead at Mercy Regional Medical Center, you will provide clinical leadership and scrub support for a diverse caseload across 9 OR suites and one dedicated labor and delivery suite for C-sections. While maintaining a primary focus on the Ortho and Sports Medicine service lines, this role encompasses Spine, Robotics, Urology, Plastics, ENT, GYN, Ophthalmology, Dental, and General surgery. Responsibilities include mentoring and coaching staff, ensuring adherence to policy, collaborating with anesthesia to optimize daily case flow, and facilitating training, scheduling, and supply management. In addition to leadership duties, you will maintain the sterile field, anticipate surgeon needs, manage preference cards, and assist with room turnover and intraoperative relief to ensure efficient department operations.
