Summer Camp Division Leader (NYC & NJ)

Kids in the Game is hiring a Division Leader to manage and inspire 3–4 camper groups (10–15 campers each) and support 6–8 counselors during our summer day camps located in New York City, Westchester, and Jersey City.

DIVISION LEADER ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Division Leader you will be the on‑site point of leadership for campers and staff, ensuring a safe, organized, and engaging camp experience. Oversee day‑to‑day camper supervision, group management, and real‑time problem‑solving. Maintain a positive, structured environment where campers feel supported and confident. Serve as primary coach and mentor to counselors, providing guidance on leadership, engagement, and communication. Support special events, off‑site trips, and camp-wide activities in collaboration with Camp Directors and Assistant Directors. Model Kids in the Game core values: empathy, inclusivity, positivity, ambition, commitment, and ambassadorship. Ensure adherence to camp safety policies, state regulations, and supervision standards. Document daily notes, communicate updates to supervisory staff, and participate in regular check‑ins.

LOGISTICS & EXPECTATIONS

School day schedule: 7:45 am to 4:15 pm; after‑care rotations 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm (2 days per week). Must arrive on‑site by 7:45 am using public or private transportation. Flexible availability for training and orientation sessions between mid‑May and late‑June. Support team‑building, marketing outreach, and administrative tasks as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

2+ years of experience working with children in a camp, recreation, or educational setting. Experience leading groups and managing diverse activities. Strong communication and problem‑solving skills. Physical ability to supervise, assist, and engage in active play (stand, walk, bend, lift up to 25 – 40 lbs). Valid NY State background check, DOE/DOH fingerprinting, and up‑to‑date physical/TB test documentation. CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (preferred). Proficiency in an additional language is a plus. Must be willing to work a full summer season from late June through August.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Stand and walk for extended periods, including outdoor activities. Walk or travel short distances to supervise children. Bend, kneel, crouch, and reach to engage with children. Climb stairs within school or community facilities. Lift and carry up to 40 lbs of equipment or supplies. Participate in active games and movement‑based activities. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Maintain visual and auditory awareness to supervise children safely.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Biweekly salary (8‑week camps: $650–$800 / week; 7‑week camps: $650–$800 / week). Final payroll adjusted for training stipend and COVID considerations. Pre‑summer stipend: $200 (May) for completed milestones. Training stipend: $375 (split across virtual and on‑site days). CPR/First Aid/AED training (4 hrs) provided and required.

MOTORLOADING SCHEDULE & CONTRACT TERMS

Pre‑summer: Late April – June (8–15 hrs / week) – training and pre‑camp preparation. Summer: Late June – end of August (full‑time) – operating camp and aftercare.
