Quality Technician, Megafactory (Night Shift)

What To Expect The Quality Technician is primarily responsible for evaluating parts produced on various lines (electro‑mechanical components and subassemblies, welding, powder coat, general/final assembly) and performing end‑of‑line testing in a high‑speed environment to ensure Tesla standards are met. The role involves flagging suspect or non‑conforming parts, supporting containment activities, and promoting a culture of quality. This minimizes defective parts sent to downstream departments, assists multiple teams in maintaining and improving overall part quality, and yields higher efficiency. What You’ll Do Guide production teams to properly disposition parts as good for use, need repair, or scrap, while documenting and communicating identified defects, and escalating unresolved concerns to the quality engineering team and direct manager. Comprehend current production quality standards, determine if ongoing production meets those standards, and execute efficiently against provided instructions. Self‑validate work for accuracy, check the quality of previous operations, meet critical deadlines, provide day‑to‑day production support on quality concerns, and develop or implement short‑ and long‑term countermeasures to quality problems while maintaining operational efficiency. Communicate emerging and trending quality issues to prevent negative impact to the factory, align with the Quality engineering team to support incoming and in‑process quality activities, provide constructive feedback, document standard work, and suggest process improvements. Own detailed daily record keeping and reporting of quality issues referenced by technicians, engineers, and management. Construct and maintain strong relationships with members of all nearby teams across multiple departments. What You’ll Bring High level of attention to detail, ability to identify and differentiate between defect types, determine severity and required response, and apply critical thinking skills to troubleshoot new quality issues. Knowledge of basic measurement and inspection tools (e.g., calipers, torque wrenches, gauges, measuring tape); experience with electro‑mechanical components, welding, powder coating, or assembly processes is desirable. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, ability to build solid relationships with several teams, and personable effectiveness in a fast‑paced team environment. Understanding of functional operation of assembled items and finished products; ability to communicate new defect information to team leadership and counterparts.
