BUSINESS OFFICE SPECIALIST – PATIENT COST ESTIMATES

CornerStone Staffing is hiring an experienced Healthcare Business Office Specialist with patient cost estimating and insurance verification experience for an excellent healthcare facility in Hurst, TX!

LOCATION: Hurst, TX 76054 | Fully Onsite

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE

• Pay: $21–$24/hr, depending on experience

• Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM

• Assignment: Temporary, approximately 10–12 weeks, with potential for extension

• Start Date: Late October / Early November

• Openings: 1

ROLE IMPACT

The Business Office Specialist plays an essential role in helping patients and families understand their financial responsibility before scheduled medical procedures. This position focuses on preparing accurate patient cost estimates, verifying insurance coverage, and communicating expected out-of-pocket expenses while providing exceptional customer service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Generate accurate patient cost estimates for upcoming medical procedures using Epic or similar healthcare systems.

• Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage details.

• Review deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and estimated patient financial responsibility.

• Communicate with patients, parents, and guarantors to explain estimated charges and insurance coverage.

• Identify discrepancies in system-generated estimates and make manual adjustments when necessary.

• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure confidentiality of patient financial information.

• Assist with patient check-in and registration as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous experience preparing patient cost estimates in a hospital, surgery center, or healthcare environment.

• Strong understanding of medical insurance, benefits verification, deductibles, copays, and coinsurance.

• Experience calculating and explaining patient out-of-pocket expenses.

• Ability to identify and correct discrepancies in patient estimates.

• Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal training.

CORE TOOLS & SYSTEMS

• Epic (strongly preferred)

• Insurance eligibility and benefits verification platforms

• Electronic health records (EHR)

• Patient financial services and estimation systems

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Hands-on experience generating patient cost estimates using Epic.

• Previous hospital, surgery center, or patient financial services experience.

• Experience communicating financial estimates directly to patients and families.

• Ability to quickly navigate insurance information and accurately calculate patient responsibility.

IMPORTANT: This position requires hands-on experience with the full patient cost estimating process. General patient registration or check-in experience alone will not meet the requirements. Candidates with strong cost estimating and insurance benefits experience using systems other than Epic are encouraged to apply.
