Service Credit Purchase Accountant – Accounting Officer (Specialist) Job Summary The CalSTRS Accounting Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Accounting Officer in the Service Credit Purchase Unit. Under the general supervision of the Accounting Administrator I, the Accounting Officer will act as the Service Credit Purchase (SCP) Accountant and must understand the Teachers’ Retirement Law relating to SCP and redeposits of previously withdrawn contributions and interest. The incumbent independently performs professional accounting duties including billing for service credit purchase, redeposit of contributions, and supports system projects such as the BenefitConnect (BC) Project. Responsibilities Bill service credit purchase requests and receivables from members. Process redeposit of contributions, including calculations for interest and compliance with TRL. Maintain accurate accounting records and reports for the SCP unit. Support system projects affecting the unit, including the BenefitConnect (BC) Project. Perform other related accounting duties as assigned. Qualifications Ability to use various software programs, primarily Microsoft Excel. Excellent initiative and confidence in working independently. Capacity to thrive in a fast‑paced environment. Quick and efficient learning ability. Minimum Requirements Accounting Officer examination required. Background investigation (BI) with Personal History Statement and fingerprinting required. Compensation Salary: $5,266.00 – $6,591.00 per month (depending on experience). Employees may receive a 5% salary increase annually based on performance up to the maximum salary for the position. This position is also subject to the Personal Leave Program 2025, which may reduce monthly base pay by 3% in exchange for leave credits. Benefits Hybrid work: remote and on‑site options. Working Conditions CalSTRS offers a hybrid approach with both in‑office and remote work solutions based on business needs. All staff are employees of the State of California and are subject to California employment taxes and withholdings. Special Requirements Applicants must provide a current Accounting Officer examination credential. A background investigation is mandatory, including a Personal History Statement and fingerprinting through the Department of Justice.
