Diesel And Construction Equipment Mechanic
The Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic position with the Department of Transportation offers a hands-on role that keeps essential equipment in top condition. This position focuses on maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles and construction equipment to support transportation operations. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Vehicle Repair: Fix engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical parts, and other components on cars, trucks, and heavy equipment
- Preventative Maintenance: Carry out inspections, diagnostics, tune-ups, and routine servicing to keep equipment in safe working condition
- State Inspections: Perform official safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation
- Equipment Servicing: Maintain and repair hand tools and motorized equipment used in construction and maintenance work
- Safety Practices: Follow proper safety procedures, report hazards, and maintain a clean and organized work area
- Technical Support: Assist other mechanics with major repairs and demonstrate proper repair techniques

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
- This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
- This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
Additional Requirements:
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
