Maintenance HVAC III Chiller Technician

Minimum starting salary rate: $28.65 per hour

Assignment: Maintenance HVAC III Chiller Technician Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Maintenance Lead HVAC Pay Grade: AX580/260 days Dept./School: Facility Services Date Revised: Spring 2024

Primary Purpose

To provide a safe and secure learning environment through proper care of existing facilities, including repairs and preventive maintenance activity. Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install HVAC systems, services, and equipment for the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC systems in district facilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Certification

• High School Diploma/GED
• HVAC School graduate or equivalent experience
• Valid Texas Driver License
• Driving record that meets the requirements of the district's insurance carrier.
• Universal refrigeration handling certification.
• Texas State licensure in HVAC (minimum class B) (preferred)

Special Knowledge/Skills/Experience

• Knowledge of HVAC systems, chilled water systems, and boilers (power fins, tube type boilers).
• Proficiency in troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical controls related to HVAC.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Possess a positive attitude
• Five years as a technician in the Chiller and Boiler HVAC field.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

• Knowledge of the various chiller configurations and how to assure efficient operations.
• Knowledge of chilled water primary and secondary loop systems and associated variable speed pumps and drives on secondary systems
• Knowledge of air distribution systems including VAV (variable air volume) with hot water reheat, dual duct, and fan coil/make-up air configurations
• Maintain, inspect, adjust, and service chiller and refrigeration equipment, and leak detection
• Weld, braze, or solder refrigeration handling equipment, pipe, or tubing
• Diagnose and recommend corrective action for chiller and refrigeration equipment
• Recommend parts and supplies needed to perform chiller and refrigeration equipment maintenance
• Perform preventative maintenance program
• Complete work orders in a timely manner.
• Work with Lead and Manager to assist in setting priorities for work requests.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Manager or appropriate administrator.

• HVAC equipment used in the trade; hand tools; power tools; light truck or van
• Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
• Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
• Heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over) on a daily basis
• Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
• Maintain emotional control under stress
