Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a PCU (Pulmonary/GI) position requiring active VA or compact RN license and cardiac monitoring experience.

Details

• Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) of an acute care teaching hospital
• Hospitalist PCU with primary Pulmonary/GI patient population, serving adults and geriatrics
• No ventilator patients on this unit
• Daily census of 27 with a patient ratio of 1:5
• May work without CNA support
• Epic EMR charting experience required
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• May require every-other-weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
• Floating required within skillset
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license required; single-state license from a non-compact state may be considered pending
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 1 year of recent experience required, with 2+ years and Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
• Experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown settings required
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management required
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Experience managing Cardizem drips (no titration), insulin drip protocol, Heparin drip protocol, and Amiodarone
• Experience with respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Experience with rapid response/code teams and isolation precautions
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
• Comfortable working with a 1:5 patient ratio and floating as needed

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with pulmonary and GI conditions in a hospitalist PCU setting
• Utilize cardiac monitoring equipment and respond to emergencies using rapid response/code team protocols
• Manage various IV medications and drip protocols as part of daily patient care
• Work within a Level I Trauma Center that is Magnet-designated for nursing excellence
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year separation before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who have completed 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, though exceptions may be reviewed case-by-case
• Local candidates within 100 miles of the facility are generally not accepted, though candidates residing 50-99.9 miles away may be considered for a single 13-week assignment with no extension eligibility
• Candidates residing less than 50 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment at a lower rate with no extension eligibility
