Advanced Manufacturing & Service Center Laboratory Specialist Job Posting Information: Posting Number: PG195065SP Internal Recruitment: No Working Title: Advanced Manufacturing & Service Center Laboratory Specialist Anticipated Hiring Range: $60,000 - $70,000 Department: Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Responsibilities 50% of the position will involve working with the Senior Design laboratory and Research Fabrication Shop in the department. Primary focus will involve manufacturing machining equipment and fabricating specialized components or devices for research or course instruction. Primary operation of water jet, laser cutter, 3D printer, and other CNC machines. Assist Laboratory Manager with classes (ME 416 and ME 200) as needed. Assist Research Fabrication Facility Supervisor with fabrication of research projects requiring machine work. Program, set up, and operate all CNC machines in MAE Department’s Research Fabrication Facility and the ME Senior Design Laboratory. Consult with researchers and faculty regarding materials and design. Conduct laboratory audits and annual inventory certification for MAE. Provide lab safety training to new graduate students and train undergraduate and graduate students on machines. Maintain safety conditions for all personnel and property. 50% of the job will involve operation of the hot press facility that is part of the Service Center. Set up and operate machine. Maintain logs on machine use and maintenance. Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety to develop and maintain a lab safety plan. Develop machine protocols to ensure operator and equipment safety. Train new users on machine operation and supervise as necessary. Assist machine users with recipe and process development and accessing the machine. Work with users and customers to troubleshoot issues. Perform routine maintenance on machine. Coordinate with OEM to complete repairs as necessary. Use assistive devices to load and unload heavy samples. Maintain appropriate levels of machine consumables. Deliver customer needs while testing using the hot press. Other Responsibilities Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of operating, demonstrating, and training specialized devices such as milling machines, lathes, grinders, water jets, and 3D printers. Knowledge of AutoCAD or SolidWorks for water jet and 3D printers. Required License or Certification N/A Valid NC Driver's License required: Yes.
