Advanced Practice Provider

Department/Unit: ACCU Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care Certification) or Physician Assistant Hours/Shift: Full Time - 40 hours/week, Day/Night Shift Benefit Eligibility: Full Time Benefits Eligible The Acute Care Cardiology Unit (ACCU) is an integral part of the Heart Institute and provides comprehensive care for medical and surgical cardiac patients including heart and heart‑lung transplant. The ACCU also serves as an overflow area for medical‑surgical patients. The patient population ranges from newborns to adults with 24 beds. Therapeutic modalities used on the unit include noninvasive monitoring, cardiac telemetry, oxygen, high‑flow nasal cannula, inotropic and antiarrhythmic drug therapy, NIRS, and complex drainage tube management. Additional modalities include mechanical/ventricular assist devices such as Berlin Heart, HeartMate II, HeartMate III, and SynCardia. Responsibilities Patient Care: Perform history and/or physical exams, assess and diagnose illnesses, formulate, document and monitor a treatment plan, order and monitor therapeutic interventions, provide clinical consultation, and prescribe medications in accordance with federal/state laws and CCHMC policy. Maintain competency and comply with Joint Commission standards for professional practice evaluation. Outcomes Identification and Planning: Develop measurable outcomes and individualized plans of care, involve patients/families, consider risks/benefits and evidence‑based interventions, update documentation accordingly. Professional Practice: Maintain professional behaviors, participate in quality improvement and research, engage in lifelong learning, serve as preceptor or mentor, contribute to professional development, provide leadership, and advocate for pediatric patients. Care Management: Use skills to promote self‑management, coordinate family‑centered care, provide leadership in care management, communicate with team, delegate appropriately, and provide treatment plans and education. Evaluation: Conduct systematic evaluation of assessment data and outcomes to revise diagnoses, plans, and strategies, involve patients, families, and providers, and use results to recommend process changes. Qualifications Master’s degree in related field (Doctorate of Nursing Practice acceptable). Acute Care certification required. Preferred: Experience as an APP in a subspecialty. Licensure, certification in accordance with CCHMC Delineation of Privileges. Multi‑state licensure may be required based on subspecialty.
