Compensation: $20.00 – $22.00 / hour

Job Summary

We are seeking a driven and empathetic Customer Service Specialist to join a fast-paced hospital billing and revenue cycle team. In this role, you will be responsible for resolving self-pay accounts by answering inbound inquiries, making outbound follow-ups, troubleshooting billing issues, and confidently collecting patient balances. You will act as a primary resource for patients, guarantors, and internal administrative departments, ensuring a seamless and supportive customer experience while maintaining strict adherence to compliance standards.

Core Responsibilities

• Manage inbound and outbound phone calls with patients, physician offices, and insurance carriers to resolve concerns and collect self-pay balances promptly.
• Verify patient identity and update account demographic information while adhering to HIPAA guidelines and all applicable healthcare regulations.
• Explain billing procedures, policies, statements, and insurance claim processing to patients in clear, understandable terms.
• Follow designated scripts to facilitate consistent, accurate, and expedient account resolution.
• Utilize multiple internal resources and systems to troubleshoot and resolve patient inquiries dynamically during active calls.
• Document all patient account activities, interactions, and required future steps concisely and accurately.
• Prepare written correspondence to patients regarding account resolution when necessary.
• Resolve routine problems independently under direct supervision, and properly escalate highly complex billing issues.
• Actively engage in ongoing training programs, continuous learning, and mentorship opportunities.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a call center, customer service, collections, healthcare customer service, or revenue cycle environment.
• Demonstrated ability to process information quickly and efficiently while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
• Proven experience thriving in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment with a dual focus on productivity and the customer experience.
• Strong communication skills, featuring the confidence and empathy required to discuss financial obligations and request payments professionally.
• Health & Safety Requirements: Because this role is in a hospital setting, candidates must provide up-to-date immunization records prior to employment. This includes proof of MMR, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Negative TB, Influenza, and TDAP.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous background in Healthcare Revenue Cycle Operations or Patient Financial Services.
• Familiarity with Epic systems, particularly in a Revenue Cycle, Customer Service, or Support capacity.
• Prior experience in medical billing or healthcare collections.
