Job Description
Hand Therapy Physical Therapist (PT) or Occupational Therapist (OT)

Summary/Objective: The physical therapist implements rehabilitation programs to enhance patient mobility, function, and strength.

Essential Functions:

• Hold an active license as a Physical Therapist in the state of practice.
• Maintain and update physical therapy skills and certifications as necessary.
• Evaluate and treat patients in accordance with physical therapy and rehabilitation programs.
• Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems to complete evaluations, reports, and discharge summaries.
• Guide and monitor all aspects of patient care and follow-up.
• Supervise Physical Therapist Assistants and Aides in patient care activities.
• Communicate with physicians and colleagues to ensure quality patient care.
• Manage correspondence with co-workers and other facilities via phone, fax, and email.
• Ensure accurate patient chart documentation and manage follow-ups related to prescriptions, test results, and authorizations.
• Provide comfort to patients and address queries as necessary.
• Collaborate with front office staff regarding scheduling and patient follow-up.
• Possess computer skills necessary for job performance, including typing and using EMR.
• Make independent decisions regarding patient care.
• Participate in business marketing and referral processes when necessary.
• Adhere to HIPAA policies and procedures.
• Understand billing policies for various insurance types, including Medicare, work compensation, and cash pay.
• Be proficient in diagnostic and ICD-10 coding for service billing.
• Maintain physical mobility during working hours, including sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
• Lift and assist with patient mobility as necessary, including support during transfers and walking.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position supervises Physical Therapist Assistants and Aides in all aspects of patient care.

Work Environment:

This position involves working in an outpatient rehabilitation setting.

Patient Privacy Responsibilities:

Expected to protect patient information in compliance with company policies and relevant laws. Access to patient information is limited to job-related duties. Those with concerns regarding patient privacy policies are encouraged to report them to the designated Privacy Officer.

Physical Demands:

The position requires continual walking, sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving during working hours. The individual must be alert to ensure patient safety.

Travel:

No travel is required for this position.

Required Education and Experience:

• Degree in Physical Therapy.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Continuing education courses.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

• Must hold an active license or be planned to test in the near future as a Physical Therapist in the state of practice.
