Job Description
The Maintenance Technician performs advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of manufacturing machinery and facility equipment in a large, clean production environment. This role diagnoses mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and control-system issues, completes both corrective and preventive maintenance, and verifies equipment functionality and safety. The technician works from complex blueprints and schematics, supports safety initiatives, and actively participates in Lean, Kaizen, and continuous-improvement activities to enhance equipment performance and production reliability.
Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical control problems on manufacturing machinery and facility equipment.
Inspect machinery and equipment to identify causes of failure and determine appropriate corrective actions.
Disassemble, clean, troubleshoot, rebuild, and repair mechanical equipment to restore proper operation.
Replace worn or damaged machine components and verify proper installation and fit.
Perform functional testing on installed, rebuilt, or repaired equipment to confirm performance and safety.
Read and interpret complex blueprints, electrical drawings, sketches, schematics, and manufacturing specifications to plan and execute maintenance tasks.
Inspect electrical conduit, wiring, switches, controls, outlets, fixtures, and motors to identify defects or potential hazards.
Test equipment using voltmeters, ohmmeters, pyrometers, pressure gauges, inspection tools, and other gauges to evaluate performance and diagnose issues.
Inspect and maintain pumps, fans, valves, and motors to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime.
Perform machinery guarding and safety-control inspections to support a safe work environment and compliance with safety standards.
Use preventive-maintenance and spare-parts management software (CMMS) to schedule, document, and track maintenance activities and inventory.
Support maintenance budgeting and spare-parts management to ensure necessary materials and components are available.
Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely when required to move equipment or parts.
Participate in Lean manufacturing, Kaizen events, and continuous-improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and production metrics.
Evaluate equipment performance and provide recommendations to improve uptime, efficiency, and quality.
Follow production quality, safety, and environmental procedures at all times while performing maintenance tasks.
Communicate clearly with production, engineering, and maintenance team members to coordinate repairs and minimize disruption to operations.
Work effectively in a team environment, sharing technical knowledge and supporting safety and improvement efforts.
Essential Skills
At least 8 years of manufacturing experience.
At least 5 years of maintenance-related experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
Strong industrial equipment maintenance skills, including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting.
Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical control problems.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex blueprints, electrical drawings, sketches, schematics, and manufacturing specifications.
Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance activities and manufacturing equipment repair.
Ability to perform machinery guarding and safety-control inspections and apply lockout/tagout procedures.
Experience using preventive-maintenance and spare-parts management software, including CMMS systems.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Ability to use voltmeters, ohmmeters, pyrometers, pressure gauges, inspection tools, gauges, power tools, and hand tools safely and effectively.
Forklift certification and ability to operate forklifts in a manufacturing environment.
Lockout/tagout certification and thorough understanding of energy-isolation procedures.
Ability to complete basic algebra, geometry, measurement, percentage, area, circumference, and volume calculations.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Consistent adherence to production quality, safety, and environmental procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Experience working in a large, open manufacturing setting with multiple departments such as machine shop, molding, bonding, and warehouse.
Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles, Kaizen, and continuous-improvement practices.
Ability to support maintenance budgeting and spare-parts management processes.
Comfort using production metrics and equipment performance data to guide maintenance decisions.
Strong attention to detail and ability to document maintenance activities clearly and accurately.
Ability to adapt to changing business needs, including occasional overtime requirements.

Work Environment
The role is based in a large, open manufacturing facility that produces composite seals, primarily for aerospace applications. The site includes a machine shop, molding operations, bonding areas with machine presses, and warehouse space. The environment is very safe and clean, with established quality, safety, and environmental procedures. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with overtime possible based on business needs. The position is classified as non-exempt and hourly. Team sizes vary by shift, with dozens of employees on first and second shifts and a smaller group on third, creating an active, collaborative production setting where maintenance supports multiple departments and equipment types.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.75 - $40.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
