CNC Turning Center Programmer (ET5)

Overview This position is part of the Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) support to the NASA EM32 Welding & Manufacturing team under the Engineering Services and Science Capability Augmentation (ESSCA) contract to the NASA MSFC Engineering Directorate. Responsibilities Design and model friction stir weld (FSW) tools, friction plug weld plugs, friction plug weld fixtures, tooling and miscellaneous related parts in programs such as Solid Edge. Create drawings from models. Convert models to numerically controlled machine code using programs such as SURFCAM and manufacture parts using computer numerically controlled (CNC) and manual machining techniques. Operate cranes and rigging loads for lifting, operate forklifts and aerial lifts, and work around welding operations as needed. Qualifications Educational requirement is a High School diploma or GED or equivalent; at least 6 years of experience and continuing education, or an Associate’s Degree or equivalent with at least 3 years of experience. Demonstrated experience using Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs such as Solid Edge. Demonstrated experience using Computer Aided Machining (CAM) programs such as SURFCAM. Experience with DMG Mori Seiki machining equipment such as mills, lathes and/or turning centers; Haas VF‑series mills; Mitsubishi Wire EDM; Mitsubishi Plunge EDM. Experience performing three‑dimensional programming and machining of aerospace materials to aerospace requirements. Possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license, automobile liability insurance and successful completion of a company defensive driving training class. Essential Functions Work Environment: General office environment (50%), machine shop environment (50%). Requires ability to interact effectively with co‑workers, managers, and clients. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate communications, both verbally and in writing (50%). Travel may be necessary, but infrequent ( Physical Requirements: Sitting for extended periods of time in meetings (10%), sitting at a desk to write reports (40%), standing, sitting and walking in a lab environment with hazards requiring safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, and gloves (50%). Work will be performed on‑site at NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center (100%). Use of stairs or elevators can gain access to buildings. Requires ability to operate a personal computer, telephone, task‑related software, and other general office equipment (50%). Requires the ability to operate CAD and CAM programs along with manual and CNC machine tools (50%). Attendance: Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%). Regular attendance is a necessity. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required. Compensation & Benefits This is an hourly, overtime‑eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The hourly rate listed for this position is a good‑faith estimate and may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
