LECTURER, GENERAL EDUCATION UCLA CLUSTER PROGRAM Race and Indigeneity in the United States

The UCLA Undergraduate Education Initiatives unit seeks one 25% lecturer to teach both Fall and Winter quarters in Academic Year 2026-27 for a lower division undergraduate course as part of the General Education UCLA Cluster Program. This position includes team‑teaching the lectures for Cluster 20, Race and Indigeneity in the US, which examines the nature and meaning of race in American society through the study of history, literature, sociology, and law. The course engages students in active dialogue and debate to teach them to be culturally fluent in the new multiethnic complexities that have displaced the outdated black‑white paradigm of U.S. race relations. We are specifically seeking a scholar who can provide perspectives on historical and contemporary issues about American Indian/Indigenous communities. This position will entail contributions to generation of writing assignments, exam questions, and grading of student submissions. UCLA has a diverse student population in one of the more diverse cities in the nation; we particularly seek candidates who have taught similarly diverse students in a major research university. Required Qualifications: An earned doctorate from an accredited university College‑level teaching experience Knowledge and training/background in race and indigeneity in related fields such as Sociology, Ethnic Studies, History, Gender Studies, or English Experience in teaching writing and composition Preferred Qualifications: At least three years of college‑level teaching experience, especially to a General Education population in large courses Excellent verbal and written communication skills Must be capable of delivering high‑quality instruction to a diverse student body Requirements: Cover letter Curriculum vitae Statement of teaching Names and contact information of two references This position is represented by the University Council – American Federation of Teachers: Contract | UCnet.
