Optometric Technician

Description Description: Founded in 1866, The Floating Hospital, is one of the last remaining charity hospitals in New York City. We welcome individuals of all ages, from infants, school-age children (5+), youth and adults. The Floating Hospital is a Federally Qualified Health Center and the largest provider to homeless families living in family shelters and domestic violence safe houses throughout all five boroughs. Patient Care ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assist the Optometrist with patient care and eye examinations including (Optical Coherence Tomography) OCT scanning. Screen patients and take medical history. Administer eyedrops as directed by the Optometrist. Provide patient education. Assist with scheduling. Clean, sanitize, and properly maintain equipment and exam rooms. Other duties as assigned. Environment The Optometric Technician will perform duties in The Floating Hospital clinic and at shelters connected with the agency. The office is temperature-controlled and the noise level is kept to a minimum in accordance with professional office practices. The agency observes a no-smoking policy. Requirements Prior experience as an Optometric Technician preferred; strong attention to detail required; must be able to multitask; must have experience with EMR software; possess a pleasant demeanor and positive attitude when interacting with patients and staff; bi-lingual Spanish speaking preferred.
