Senior Business Development Manager - Intellectual Property (Chicago)

We are collaborating with a global law firm on a search for a Senior Business Development Manager – Intellectual Property, based in Detroit, Washington, D.C., or Chicago.

The Senior Business Development Manager will lead BD and marketing strategy for the IP Department and the Life Sciences industry group. They must have strong knowledge and experience supporting patent, trademark and litigation attorneys.

Responsibilities

• Working closely with department and firm leadership, this individual will drive client growth, cross-selling, and market visibility through targeted BD initiatives, marketing programs, events, and thought leadership.
• Partner with Department Leaders, Practice Group Leaders and attorneys to develop and execute strategies focused on client retention, cross-selling, and market expansion.
• Align practice group BD plans with broader firm objectives and track measurable results.
• Identify new business opportunities within IP and Life Sciences through market intelligence and industry insights.
• Maintain marketing collateral, experience lists, and practice capabilities to support BD initiatives.
• Collaborate with the proposal team on pitches, proposals, and related business development efforts.
• Conduct market research and monitor industry trends, competitors, and legal developments to inform strategy.
• Track and analyze BD activities, client acquisition, and marketing program effectiveness, providing recommendations to department leadership.
• Identify cross-selling, networking, conference, and thought leadership opportunities to enhance practice visibility and maximize ROI.
• Build relationships with attorneys and business colleagues to support strategic priorities and cross-practice collaboration.
• Manage, mentor, and develop BD and marketing team members, fostering professional growth and a high-performing team.
