About the role:
As a Substitute Youth Development Professional (Sub-YDP) you'll have the opportunity to directly contribute to Boys and Girls Clubs of San Leandro. You'll be fostering a safe and enriching space that promotes curiosity, creativity, and positive relationships. What you need: A positive attitude, reliable transportation, and the ability to adapt to different locations within the San Lorenzo, San Leandro, and New Haven Unified School Districts.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
Program and Operations Support
- Supervision & Safety: Ensure a safe and nurturing environment for youth participants.
- Program Facilitation: Lead engaging after-school programs and activities for a group of approximately 20 students.
- Lesson Planning: Facilitate lesson plans and activities that promote personal growth, educational achievement, and character development.
Classroom Management and Teaching
- Establish classroom rules and behavior.
- Provide for children's basic needs and ensure supervision.
- Adapt teaching methods to children's interests and learning styles.
- Manage classroom activities, lessons, play, breaks, and meals.
- Track children's progress and communicate effectively with parents and teachers.
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom.
Relationships
- Mentoring: Serve as a positive role model and mentor to young participants, fostering their self-esteem and personal development.
- Maintaining a Positive Environment: Cultivate a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels valued and respected.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues to ensure program goals are met and share best practices.

Requirements:Required Experience:
- This role requires 2 years of professional experience working with youth.
- Must be at least 21 years or older to apply.
- Multi-conversational language skills a HUGE plus (Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Tagalog).
- Candidates with experience, education, or coursework in Early Childhood Development, Education, or related fields will be given preference.
Required Educational Experience
- High school diploma + 48 college semester units (˜ 2 years college) , OR
- High school diploma + an Associate’s (or higher) degree, OR
- High school diploma + a passing score on the district’s Paraeducator/Paraprofessional Exam (may be obtained within 30 days of hire).

- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 25 pounds.
- Occasionally exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials
- (Communicable diseases in an office environment including COVID-19, common cold, and flu viruses. Negative TB screen required)
- While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-70 pounds (with support, a child that has fallen)
- Specialized equipment: Walkie Talkie radios for communication
