Accounting Assistant Grand Rapids, MI
Our client is a well-established nonprofit religious organization in Grand Rapids seeking an Accounting Assistant to join their team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys reconciliation work, thrives in a relaxed and supportive environment, and is looking for strong work/life balance with a hybrid schedule. The organization offers a very laid-back culture with casual dress (jeans daily), a beautiful newer office building, and a genuinely kind and collaborative team atmosphere.
Responsibilities
- Perform weekly bank reconciliations across multiple bank accounts
- Investigate and resolve reconciliation variances and discrepancies
- Manage reconciliations involving checks, ACH, cash activity, credit cards, and daily bank sweeps
- Work within multiple entities and general ledgers
- Assist with more complex credit card reconciliations
- Pull documentation and create reports for upcoming audits
- Support audit preparation activities during fiscal year-end
- Follow established SOPs and written work instructions
- Work within multiple banking platforms and accounting systems
Qualifications
Required
- 12 years of accounting experience with a focus on reconciliations
- Understanding of reconciliation processes and ability to investigate discrepancies independently
- Strong Excel skills
- Comfortable asking questions and problem-solving
Preferred
- Sage Intacct experience
- Audit exposure or audit preparation experience
- Google Workspace experience
- Experience using AI tools to improve efficiencies and workflows
