- Have received a passing score of 455 or higher on the Education Testing Service ParaPro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS); or
- Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or
- Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university; or
- Have completed a Paraeducator Apprenticeship Program (program must be registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council).

Under the supervision of the Criminal Justice program instructor, this position will assist in the supervision of the Criminal Justice program activities working closely with high school students on an individual and group basis. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist the program instructor in supervising and working with students as follows:
- Assist in providing group and individualized instruction to students.
- Assist the program instructor in supervising students during classroom labs and scenario-based training activities to ensure adherence to safety protocols and classroom procedures.
- Assist in evaluating and specifying direction of instruction so as to maximize each student's potential.
- Maintain accurate data on student progress.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and the general public.
- Implement behavioral management strategies using the techniques that have been outlined by the instructor.
- Prepare and setup equipment, materials, and instructional resources for demonstrations, simulations, and practical exercises (e.g. mock crime scenes, evidence collection, fingerprinting, and investigative techniques),
- Maintain, organize, and inventory program equipment, supplies, and instructional materials.
- Assist in contacting community agencies to set up guest speakers, field trips, internships, etc. that will provide students with information about the criminal justice field.
- Attend various training sessions as necessary so as to maintain an up-to-date understanding of instruction and the criminal justice field.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Three years experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, corrections, public safety, or a related field.
- Knowledge of criminal justice procedures, crime scene investigation techniques, and evidence handling.
- Ability to work effectively with high school students in a structured educational environment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and the general public.
- Demonstrated proficiency in basic office and technology skills, including the ability to effectively communicate via email; ability to use Outlook calendar for scheduling purposes; create, edit and manage Word documents; send and manage electronic attachments.
- Ability to locate and effectively utilize community resources.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a network of criminal justice resource persons within the greater metropolitan area.
- Must possess personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative cooperativeness, and confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to operate the office equipment as listed in the tools and equipment area above.
- Must possess organizational skills and the ability to follow through.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
- Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.
- Supports a positive school environment that celebrates, respects and values diversity, where learning is made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
