Substitute Bus Driver

Job Title

Scope of Responsibilities:

Responsible to comply with all Rules and Regulation of the New York State Education Department, Department of Motor Vehicles and Department of Transportation.

Able to relate to children of differing ages or cognitive level as well as with students with special needs.

Communicate school bus ridership rules and maintain orderly behavior of pupils while on the bus.

Oversee the safe loading and unloading of students; training students in proper crossing techniques.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Be willing to communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student behavior as appropriate.

Ensure all students who require specialized securement are properly secured in a 5-point harness, safety vest, or appropriate mobility device during transport.

Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation Procedures.

Ability to complete a proper pre-trip and post-trip in accordance with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications:

As specified by Erie County Department of Personnel/Civil Service

As specified by New York State Department of Education/Department of Motor Vehicles/Department of Transportation

Non-Competitive: Possession of a valid New York State Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger, and School Bus endorsement.
