Job Summary Physical Therapist – NICU Department: Pediatric Rehabilitation Services Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts Position Overview As a Neonatal Physical Therapist in the Level IV NICU at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, you will provide comprehensive, developmentally supportive care to medically complex neonates and their families. You will be embedded within a highly specialized interdisciplinary NICU team, supporting neurodevelopmental outcomes from birth through transition to home and early intervention. Key Responsibilities Analyze comprehensive information from formal and informal assessments to determine rehabilitation treatment diagnoses. Collaborate with stakeholders to establish care plans, coordinate and implement care delivery, and anticipate patient needs across the rehabilitation continuum. Apply evidence‑based interventions to ensure effective outcomes and re‑evaluate performance to assess patient progress toward goals. Employ strategies to promote successful return to home, community, and school/vocational environments. Technical Capabilities Treatment Planning & Goal Setting (Novice) : Develop and document patient‑focused, functional goals and coordinate referrals to other services. Patient Evaluation (Novice) : Evaluate patients with physical deficits, administer and score standardized tests, and document status requiring skilled therapy. Treatment Implementation (Novice) : Provide treatment consistent with physician prescription, adapt plans as needed, supervise assistants and volunteers, and use evidence‑based protocols. Patient Documentation (Novice) : Document in approved templates, meet institutional quality and timeliness standards, and use appropriate abbreviations. Patient Education (Novice) : Communicate functional impact of assessment findings, treatment interventions, and disease process; supervise and train students from professional programs.
