Literacy Specialist

Literacy Specialist Greenwich Public Schools seeks a literacy specialist for Julian Curtiss Elementary School. Position purpose includes supporting students, teachers, and administrators by providing guidance, leadership, expertise, and instruction to improve literacy achievement for all students in all content areas. The role involves effectively assessing and diagnosing student literacy needs and designing and delivering literacy instruction. Essential responsibilities include implementing the GPS literacy curriculum, serving on the School Data Team and Student Assistance Team, promoting a safe classroom environment, developing standards for critical analysis, conducting ongoing assessment of student learning, receiving and screening referrals, providing intensive instruction to struggling readers, providing collaborative services to classroom teachers, acting as a resource teacher in literacy, creating an atmosphere in which students feel free to express their views, employing a variety of teaching techniques, and reviewing and implementing modifications, accommodations, and intervention plans for all students. Knowledge of current teaching methods, GPS English language arts curriculum, and the Connecticut State Standards for Language Arts is required. Ability to utilize a learning management system, organize and coordinate work, communicate effectively, engage in self-evaluation, establish cooperative working relationships, provide opportunities to develop reading comprehension and critical thinking skills, and employ a variety of teaching techniques is also required. Equipment use of district-issued digital tools is necessary. Qualifications include CT State Certification in Remedial Reading and Remedial Language Arts or Reading and Language Arts Consultant.
