About the Role
The Construction Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing all capital construction and renovation projects across a growing portfolio of healthcare facilities, including ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), clinics, and ancillary care sites. This individual serves as the primary interface between the organization and its external partners — general contractors, architects, engineers, and specialty consultants — ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with healthcare regulatory and accreditation standards.
The ideal candidate brings direct experience managing construction in healthcare environments and thrives in a fast-paced, multi-site organization where priorities shift and stakeholder alignment is essential.
POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management & Delivery
- Lead concurrent construction and renovation projects across multiple healthcare facilities, from concept through closeout.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and milestone trackers; provide regular status reporting to senior leadership.
- Coordinate project sequencing to minimize clinical disruption and ensure continuity of patient care during active construction phases.
- Drive accountability across all project stakeholders — contractors, design teams, vendors, and internal operations.
Contractor & Consultant Management
- Manage competitive bid processes; evaluate general contractor and subcontractor proposals, qualifications, and references.
- Negotiate and administer construction contracts, owner-architect agreements, and consultant scopes of work.
- Conduct regular site visits and OAC (Owner-Architect-Contractor) meetings; enforce schedule and quality expectations.
- Resolve field issues, RFIs, change orders, and submittals in a timely, cost-conscious manner.
Healthcare Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure all projects comply with applicable codes including FGI Guidelines, Joint Commission standards, state health department requirements, CMS conditions of participation, and ADA/NFPA standards.
- Coordinate infection control risk assessments (ICRA) and interim life safety measures (ILSM) for occupied healthcare facilities.
- Manage permitting processes including certificate of occupancy, healthcare licensing inspections, and accreditation surveys related to facility changes.
- Partner with compliance, infection prevention, and clinical leadership to ensure construction activities meet healthcare-specific safety protocols.
Design & Pre-Construction
- Collaborate with architects and clinical stakeholders on programming, schematic design, and design development to ensure spaces meet operational needs.
- Review and provide feedback on construction documents for constructability, code compliance, and cost efficiency.
- Lead value engineering exercises to optimize scope and cost without compromising clinical function.
- Develop project budgets and preliminary schedules during pre-construction phases.
- Set clear goals and expectations; provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance reviews.
- Develop talent through mentoring, training, and career development initiatives.
- Promote a collaborative and engaging work environment that aligns with company values.
- Manage conflict and make timely decisions to maintain team focus and performance.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and development conversations.
- Approve timecards, schedules, time-off requests, and other administrative HR functions.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, labor laws, and safety regulations.
Vendor & Contract Administration
- Maintain an approved vendor and contractor database; manage pre-qualification processes.
- Review and approve pay applications, lien waivers, change orders, and project invoices in alignment with ownership and finance teams.
- Track project costs against approved budgets; prepare variance reports and proactively flag exposures.
- Ensure closeout documentation is complete including as-builts, O&M manuals, warranties, and attic stock.
Communication & Stakeholder Coordination
- Serve as the primary point of contact for facility leadership, operators, and clinical staff on all construction-related matters.
- Prepare and present project status updates to senior leadership, ownership, and joint venture partners as required.
- Coordinate with real estate, legal, and finance teams on lease negotiations, landlord work letters, and tenant improvement allowances.
- Foster strong, collaborative relationships with external partners while maintaining clear accountability for deliverables.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressive project management experience in commercial construction, with a minimum of 3 years managing healthcare facility projects (ASCs, MOBs, hospitals, clinics, or similar).
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects across geographically distributed sites.
- Strong working knowledge of general contracting, subcontractor management, and construction contract administration (AIA documents, GMP contracts).
- Familiarity with healthcare facility design guidelines (FGI), Joint Commission Environment of Care standards, CMS requirements, and state healthcare licensing processes.
- Proven experience managing ICRA/ILSM protocols in occupied clinical settings.
- Proficiency in project management software (Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or equivalent).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; comfortable engaging with clinicians, executives, and field crews alike.
- Experience with ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) or physician-owned joint venture facilities, preferred.
- CCM (Certified Construction Manager), PMP, or LEED AP credential, preferred.
Why Join Legent Health?

We Offer:
