Job Description

The General Production Worker assembles steel bunker walls by reading blueprints, measuring materials, and using hand and power tools to produce high-quality finished products. This role involves consistent heavy lifting, precise measurements, and routine quality checks in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

• Assemble steel bunker walls by fitting and securing fabricated parts, similar to completing a large, precise puzzle.

• Read and interpret blueprints to understand specifications, dimensions, and assembly requirements.

• Use tape measures (down to 1/16 inch accuracy) to measure and mark materials according to design specifications.

• Operate hand tools and power tools, including saws and drills, to cut, drill, and prepare parts for assembly.

• Perform structural assembly of steel components to build bunker walls that meet quality and safety standards.

• Conduct quality checks on assembled parts and finished bunker walls to ensure they meet all specifications and tolerances.

• Handle and move materials and components, consistently lifting 50+ pounds as part of daily tasks.

• Assist with general production and general labor duties as needed to support the overall manufacturing process.

• Operate production and assembly equipment and machines as required, following all safety procedures.

• Troubleshoot basic assembly or production issues and communicate problems to the appropriate team members.

• Follow all workplace safety guidelines, including proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective gear.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient production and a safe work environment.

Essential Skills

• Ability to consistently lift 50+ pounds throughout the shift.

• Ability to read and understand blueprints for assembly work.

• Proficiency using a tape measure with accuracy to 1/16 of an inch.

• Experience with general production or general labor in a manufacturing or similar environment.

• Hands-on experience with assembly work, particularly structural or steel assembly.

• Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools such as saws and drills.

• High attention to detail to ensure accurate measurements and high-quality assemblies.

• High reliability and strong work ethic, including consistent attendance and dependability.

• Comfort working with steel materials and in a production setting.

• Ability to perform basic troubleshooting during assembly or machine operation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Construction or general labor experience with assembly is a strong plus.

• Experience in steel manufacturing or structural assembly is beneficial.

• Experience in machine operating or machine operation within a production environment is helpful.

• Familiarity with forklifts or material handling equipment is an advantage.

• No formal education or certifications required; hands-on experience and practical skills are valued.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production facility on a first shift schedule, working Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The environment is not temperature controlled, so conditions can vary with the seasons. You will work around steel materials, production machinery, hand tools, and power tools such as saws and drills, and may also encounter forklifts and other material handling equipment. The facility has been improved with reorganized production areas and upgraded air filtration systems to enhance comfort and efficiency. The dress code typically includes jeans, steel toe boots, and a work-appropriate shirt to support safety and practicality in a hands-on manufacturing setting. A second shift option may be available with a shift differential for those who transition to that schedule.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.26 - $22.26/hr.
