- Perform work with sheet metal materials in repairing, fabricating, modifying, and installing sheet metal parts, items, and assemblies..
- Develop and lay out patterns, and cuts, forms, joins, assembles, and installs items and systems such as heating, air-conditioning, and ventilating pipes.
- Repair or replace aircraft structural components according to drawings, blueprints, directives, technical manuals, and safety procedures.
- Cut, punch, drill, bend, and otherwise shapes sheet metal parts by utilizing a variety of tools including punches, drills, chisels, hammers, mallets, shears, rolls, brakes, pneumatic riveters, and metal forming machines.
- Fabricate structural parts using metal-forming techniques and fiberglass materials.
- Perform composite repairs including near and far side laminates, core replacement, and electromagnetic interference repairs.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Pre-employment and annual physicals while in the position including pulmonary testing.
- Pre-employment and random drug testing while in the position. Required to sign DA Form 5019-R.
- May be required to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays and/or on-call duty hours.

- PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Work assignments require moderate to strenuous effort. Workers must climb, bend, stoop, crawl, stand on concrete or metal surfaces, and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods. Frequently lift parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds (9 kilograms). Occasionally, may lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds (23 kilograms) with the aid of mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers.
- WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is dirty, greasy, and unpleasantly noisy. Work is performed both inside and outside. Inside work is performed on concrete floors where areas are drafty and occasionally damp and where fumes are present. Outside areas are unprotected from elements such as wind, rain, snow, and wide temperature variations. Operating helicopters create strong downwash winds, which result in blowing dust and dirt, as well as high noise levels. Rigging, alignment, tracking, adjusting, and operational checks in this environment necessitate the use of eye and hearing protections. The noise hazards require annual audiometric evaluation. Use of hand tools, safety wire, and electrical equipment presents possibility of cuts, punctures, strains, burns, shocks, and similar injury. Working on elevated surfaces and work platforms and ladders presents possibility of falling and injuries such as broken bones and sprains. Employee occasionally works outside under field conditions when involved in onsite repair or evacuation of aircraft forced down by mechanical malfunctions. Inherent dangers of toxic chemicals, unstable working positions, moving rotor blades are always present.
