Materials Engineer

Sr Steam Turbine EngineerThe Sr Steam Turbine Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of major rotating equipment including steam turbines, cooling water pumps, and injection pumps. This role provides technical leadership, oversees maintenance programs, and serves as the owner's representative for mechanical projects. Primary job duties and responsibilities include adhering to, supporting, and enforcing all company safety and environmental rules, policies, and procedures. The engineer is responsible for the proper maintenance and repair of main steam turbines, cooling water pumps, and injection pumps, including the development of written job scopes and procedures to complete major inspections on turbines and generators. They identify spare parts and verify stock of critical parts, coordinate the repair of turbine rotors and turbine parts, and have reliability, predictive, and preventative maintenance activities completed for the major rotating equipment. This includes vibration analysis, lubrication analysis, and thermography. The Sr Steam Turbine Engineer recommends major work activities for critical equipment during major overhauls, is responsible for the failure analysis program, coordinates investigations, writes the technical portion of contracts to be performed on rotating equipment, serves as the owner's representative for capital and expense mechanical projects, provides technical leadership to staff, and provides technical input to assist in development of project planning. Additional responsibilities may be requested or assigned.Requirements include a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university engineering program, a professional engineering license is recommended to be considered for the senior level, seven to ten years of experience and knowledge of steam turbine operation, maintenance and repair, power plant engineering, business/financial and contractual matters, excellent communication skills, the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently, the ability to read, analyze and interpret procedures, regulations, blueprints, schematics, and process and instrument diagrams, the capability of writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, the general public, and employees at all levels, competent in giving oral and written instruction that is understandable by all, the ability to make clear and precise decisions in critical situations (accident sites), the ability to make clear and precise decisions if environmental problems should occur, the ability to evaluate safety/environmental concerns and develop a procedure that complies with CalEnergy Operating Corporation procedures, the ability to use technical skills to focus ideas onto substantial projects, the willingness to learn, the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas and concepts to those with less technical background, the ability to meet physical requirements of the role, including lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, working in confined spaces, and tolerating extreme temperatures, a valid California driver's license is required, and a California professional engineering license is preferred.
