About The Role We’re looking for a dedicated Clinical Lab Scientist to join our team and help us continue delivering the level of care our patients and families deserve. In this role, you’ll be a vital part of our support team, ensuring excellent service, collaboration, and patient outcomes in a fast‑paced healthcare environment. Under the supervision of the department Supervisor, the Clinical Lab Scientist will assume responsibility for performing routine, standardized biological and/or biochemical test procedures on blood, urine, tissue, body fluids and other specimen sources that assist clinicians in diagnosing and managing patients. You will demonstrate individual judgment with strong theoretical and practical knowledge of instrumentation and the principles of test procedures. You will also assume responsibility for actively contributing to the laboratory’s productivity and cost effectiveness, including but not limited to employee orientation and implementation of new tests, writing procedures and helping with special projects. As a Clinical Lab Scientist you will participate in the laboratory quality assurance and compliance program. You will also assume charge as needed. What You’ll Do Demonstrate technical expertise and competence for all assigned tasks. Perform testing according to SOP. Maintain extensive knowledge of instrument and equipment, including routine operation, proper working order, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting. Perform, evaluate and document required quality control procedures; document remedial action or acceptance of out‑of‑control results. Perform quality assurance activities as directed by supervisor. Use good analytical judgment and problem‑solving skills to evaluate test results. Accurately report test results. Notify supervisor of problems and follow up as directed. Determine acceptability of specimens, maintain positive identification and resolve and document any discrepancies. Demonstrate a working knowledge of laboratory information system, including basic routines and other menus. Generate, review and act on reports as required by laboratory protocol. Participate in training and orientation of staff. Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory of supplies and reagents; control and ensure proper storage and disposition. Communicate critical values according to laboratory procedures. Evening shift employees must work their scheduled weekend rotation (nights) and also be available to support other vacant night shift assignments in instances of labor shortage (SH Main lab only). Day shift employees must work their scheduled weekend rotation (day) and also support evening vacant shifts in instances of labor shortage (SH Main lab only). Perform administrative responsibilities with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. Use hospital systems and tools to document care and support operations. What You Bring Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science required. Licensed by NYS Department of Education as CLS or NYS CLS Limited Permit. If Limited Permit must obtain NYS CLS Licensure within 12 months of start. Currently registered with NYSED. NYS DOH supervisor eligible required for MMA and WMA off‑site locations.
