Description: The Cardiovascular Surgical Technologist assists a surgeon before, during, and after surgery under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse according to accepted clinical standards of care. The unit has 2 open-heart surgical suites. The staff varies based on volume, typically consisting of 2 registered nurses and 2 surgical techs during the day shift. Patient ratios are 2:1. Typical procedures performed in this unit include CABG, MVR, AVR, pacemaker insertions, laser lead extractions, and some endovascular procedures. The technologist may also stand by for TVAR and mitral clips. Experience in minimally invasive cardiac procedures is preferred. The technologist may be required to provide lunch relief in various service lines including vascular, robotics, general, orthopedic, neuro/spine, urology, podiatry, thoracic surgery, and plastic surgery. On-call requirements are approximately every other day and every other weekend. Scrub color is OR/CVOR, and scrubs are provided by the facility.
