Job Description

This role focuses on concrete carpentry for civil construction projects, including building and framing forms and decks, performing form work and deck work, and supporting bridge and structural concrete operations. You will work on a high-profile infrastructure project that involves concrete form work, deck construction, and related carpentry tasks from initial setup through stripping and finishing.

Responsibilities

• Build, install, and assemble concrete forms for bridge decks, pergolas, and other civil structures.

• Perform deck work, including framing and constructing decks to support concrete placement.

• Read and interpret concrete form work blueprints and deck work drawings to plan and execute tasks accurately.

• Frame forms and decks to specified dimensions, ensuring structural integrity and proper alignment.

• Set, secure, and tie rebar within forms according to project specifications and drawings.

• Carry out concrete carpentry tasks from layout through completion, including erecting and bracing formwork.

• Strip and remove concrete forms safely and efficiently after concrete has cured, protecting finished surfaces.

• Assist with concrete finishing activities as needed to achieve required surface quality on bridge decks and other structures.

• Work within established traffic control setups, staying behind barrels and drums and following safety procedures at all times.

• Coordinate work during weekend outages and weekday operations to meet project schedules and sequencing requirements.

• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition to support safe and efficient operations.

• Follow all applicable safety standards, including OSHA requirements and state work area protection guidelines.

Essential Skills

• At least 8 years of experience as a concrete carpenter on civil or heavy construction projects.

• Strong knowledge of concrete form work, including building, framing, and stripping forms for decks and other structures.

• Proven ability to read and understand concrete form work blueprints and deck work prints.

• Hands-on experience with deck work, including framing decks and preparing them for concrete placement.

• Proficiency in carpentry tasks related to civil construction, including layout, measuring, cutting, and assembling materials.

• Experience working with concrete, including handling, placing, and supporting concrete operations.

• Ability to work with rebar, forms, and structural components in accordance with project specifications.

• OSHA 10 certification.

• Ability to work safely in active roadway environments and follow traffic control and work area protection procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in concrete finishing, including smoothing, texturing, and curing bridge decks or similar surfaces.

• Framing forms and framing decks for large civil construction or bridge projects.

• Ability to interpret and apply civil carpentry plans and specifications.

• Familiarity with concrete form systems and deck construction methods used in bridge resurfacing projects.

• Comfort working on long-term infrastructure projects with recurring weekend and weekday operations.

Work Environment

This position is based on a bridge deck resurfacing project on Interstate I-95, involving the removal and replacement of the existing bridge deck wearing surface with concrete. Work takes place primarily during weekend outages from Friday at 7:00 PM to Monday at 7:00 AM, with traffic shifted to the far shoulder and the adjacent lane closed to create a protected work zone. You work behind traffic barrels and drums in accordance with the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual, supported by truck-mounted attenuators positioned in advance of the work area. The project also includes weekday, daytime work under the bridge to prepare for weekend operations. The environment is outdoors, in active highway conditions, requiring adherence to all safety and protective equipment requirements and comfort working nights and weekends over multiple consecutive weekends, weather permitting.

This is a Permanent position based out of Stafford, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58500.00 - $75000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
