About this unit: 9 North Medical is a fast‑paced 35‑bed unit that cares for patients with a variety of medical diagnoses, offering excellent learning opportunities. Nurses develop exceptional clinical assessment, critical‑thinking and teamwork skills while collaborating with a multidisciplinary care team to meet the needs of complex medical patients. Scope of work The RN, within the scope of the ANA, applies the nursing process to provide patient‑family centered care: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge. The RN delivers quality patient care under the guidance of the Nurse Leader, following Corewell Health policies and procedures, and acknowledges the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on outcomes. The RN collaborates with patients/families to integrate their input and goals into care planning, develops and documents teaching strategies, and records education and learning accurately in the health record. Qualifications Associate’s or Diploma in Nursing required. Bachelor’s in Nursing required within 5 years for graduate nurses (GN) or nurses with less than 1 year of experience. Graduates from a non‑accredited nursing school must have at least one year of acute‑care experience or at least two years in a licensed health‑care role, and must have passed the NCLEX. MI Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart and Stroke. External candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of RN clinical experience; they must also complete a required competency assessment by Nursing Education. Internal candidates with less than 2 years of RN experience must be approved by their current nurse leader and the site Chief Nursing Officer, and will remain a unit‑based PRN employee until reaching 2 years of experience.
