Research Support For Polar And Marine Research

Das Alfred-Wegener-Institut Helmholtz-Zentrum fr Polar- und Meeresforschung is a research institution supported by the Federal Republic of Germany, the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, and the states of Brandenburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Lower Saxony. We conduct polar and marine research in a broad multidisciplinary approach, contributing significantly to global environmental, earth system, and paleoclimate research in collaboration with numerous academic and non-academic research institutions.

Background: The AWI operates five research vessels in polar regions and the North Sea. The Department of Logistics and Research Platforms enables the operation and development of infrastructures and the logistical implementation of expeditions. In the area of research vessels, we are the interface between expedition participants and the ship. Through daily communication with shipping companies and stakeholders, we make expeditions possible. To support the department, we are looking for you to join us at the earliest possible date in a full-time position.

Your Tasks

• Logistical, operational support of AWI ships and their expeditions
• Processing of diplomatic research applications
• Interface to embassies, shipping companies, and other contractual partners
• Advisory and support for expedition participants
• Organization and accompaniment of dry dock periods and port passages in Germany and abroad

Your Profile

Minimum Bachelors degree in a maritime field (nautics, maritime transport and port economics, cruise industry management, or comparable) Willingness to undertake multi-day national and international service trips as well as regular on-board visits in port and dry dock operations in Bremerhaven, Helgoland, List, Cuxhaven, and occasionally internationally IT application skills, especially Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Adobe Acrobat Pro as well as video conferencing software German language skills at a native level (approximately CEFR level C2) Very good English language skills (approximately CEFR level C1) Desired skills, knowledge, and experiences

• Knowledge and experience in the field of research shipping as crew
• Practical seafaring time as an officer
• Excellent communication skills, friendly and yet binding in a demanding environment
• Knowledge and experience in the field of HSE
• IT application skills beyond the use of MS Office products
