Child Life Specialist – Part Time – Mountainside, NJ Location: 150 New Providence Rd, Mountainside, NJ 07092 Department: Long Term Care Therapy Shift: Day Schedule: Part Time, 30 hours/week (including evenings and weekends) Status: Salaried Pay Range: $41,215.00 – $52,026.00 per year (actual compensation depends on qualifications and experience) Job Overview Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates child life services to meet the therapeutic, educational and/or diversional needs of the patient, facilitating adjustment to illness, disability, hospitalization, painful procedures. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Early Childhood Education, or related field Completion of Child Life internship Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) credential (or expectation to obtain within one year of hire) American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider Certification Valid driver's license Experience with children with special needs Physical stamina to lift, maneuver patients and equipment Therapeutic handling of patients Cognitive ability to evaluate patients and complete documentation Ability to drive hospital vehicles Ability to plan activities and adapt to various diagnoses Tact, enthusiasm, initiative, and professional judgment in performance of duties Time‑management skills Good communication skills Certifications and Licenses Required CCLS or eligible (if not certified at hire, must pass exam within one year) AHA BLS Provider Driver's license Scheduling Requirements Part Time, 30 hours per week Evening and weekend availability Essential Functions Complete all documentation on time per hospital and department policies Develop, coordinate and implement appropriate programming for a variety of age and diagnostic groups, matching developmental level, interests and emotional state Assess, plan and implement individual treatment plans related to illness/disability, social–emotional development, play preference/style, coping skills and family dynamics according to standards of practice Conduct individual sessions, team tutoring, procedural support and patient/family teaching in a developmentally and culturally appropriate manner Actively support principles of pain management Evaluate Child Life services and make recommendations to improve patient and program outcomes Ensure treatment plans reflect collaboration with patient, family and team; involve school re‑integration services during discharge planning where appropriate Coordinate special events on a rotating basis throughout the year Assist with personal, department and hospital growth through research, professional organization involvement and presentations to promote best practice and maintain certification Supervise and/or assist students and interns as designated Effectively utilize and supervise volunteers and visiting groups May provide direction to students and volunteers Other Duties Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
