Field Service Technician – Industrial Automation & Equipment Installation

Location: Home Base: Livonia, MI
Travel: Travel required (primarily regional with some overnight travel)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Field Service Technician with a strong background in industrial equipment installation , industrial automation , and electromechanical troubleshooting . This role is responsible for installing, commissioning, maintaining, and repairing industrial automation equipment at customer facilities. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional who enjoys traveling, solving technical challenges, and providing exceptional customer support.

The successful candidate will work from a home base in Livonia, Michigan , while traveling to customer sites as needed to perform installations, startup support, preventative maintenance, and emergency service.

Responsibilities

• Install, assemble, and commission industrial automation equipment at customer locations.
• Perform equipment installation , startup, testing, and system validation.
• Troubleshoot electrical , mechanical , PLC-controlled , and electromechanical systems .
• Diagnose equipment issues and complete repairs to minimize customer downtime.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and recommend corrective actions.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics , mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.
• Verify proper machine operation and train customer personnel on equipment operation and basic maintenance.
• Complete detailed service reports and maintain accurate documentation.
• Communicate effectively with customers, engineering, and internal support teams.
• Maintain a safe work environment while following company and customer safety procedures.
• Travel extensively to customer sites, including overnight travel as required.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Field Service Technician , Installation Technician , or Industrial Maintenance Technician .
• Hands-on experience installing and servicing industrial equipment or automation systems .
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with industrial automation , manufacturing equipment , robotics , conveyor systems , packaging equipment , or similar machinery is highly preferred.
• Ability to read electrical schematics , wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
• Familiarity with PLCs , HMI systems , servo motors , VFDs , sensors, and industrial controls is preferred.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in industrial manufacturing environments.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Must be willing and able to travel extensively.
