Coordinator, Communications - Coachella Valley Lakers

Job Title: Coordinator, Communications for Coachella Valley Lakers (Full-Time Seasonal) Department: Communications Reports to: Associate Director, Communications Position Summary: The Communications Coordinator for the Coachella Valley Lakers serves as the primary media contact for the Los Angeles Lakers NBA G League affiliate, leading all communications and media relations efforts for the team. This role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive season-long communications strategy, ensuring a seamless and professional experience for media and broadcast partners while elevating the team's visibility across local and national platforms. Responsibilities include writing and distributing media materials, coordinating media credentialing and interview logistics, managing all gameday communications operations and fostering strong relationships with journalists and broadcasters. The coordinator also may support Los Angeles Lakers basketball communications initiatives, as directed. Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities**): Game Day Coordination Oversee and coordinate media credentials for local and visiting media, working with G league management and the broader communications team for guidance Receive, compile and process credential requests and disseminate media credentials for each game Manage home game media logistics including arrivals and check-in, seating assignments, distributing game information and capturing and circulating data and insights helpful to drive coverage Partner with the marketing department to support storylines across editorial and owned channels PR Publication Production Assist in the researching, writing and editing of Coachella Valley Lakers publications and information Develop media guides, rosters, player bios, coaches bios, game notes and press releases Coordinate production logistics of publications, ensuring the highest standard of creation and presentation while managing sustainability and ease-of-use Support development of additional media materials for the Los Angeles Lakers, as directed Upload media materials to Coachella Valley Lakers media portal, ensuring flawless and quick distribution Day-to-Day Media Support Attend Coachella Valley Lakers practices to manage internal and external player and coach media requests Support media and broadcast interview requests for Coachella Valley Lakers players, coaches and front office staff Pitch media for opportunities to cover the Coachella Valley Lakers on and off the court Service broadcast partners with Coachella Valley Lakers content, stats and information throughout the season Research, plan and support logistics for media events including signage, scheduling, run of show, production, invitations, spokesperson preparation and more Monitor news and share clips with the Lakers organization Additional Responsibilities Secure Coachella Valley Lakers players for media and marketing needs to drive awareness and interest Provide administrative and clerical support to team leadership, as assigned Miscellaneous other tasks and special projects, as needed and assigned Support the Los Angeles Lakers communications efforts for game day, practices and shootaround, as directed **Responsibilities subject to change based on organizational needs and direction from management. Education (Required/ Preferred): Bachelor’s degree (required) in Communications/ Journalism/ PR (preferred) or related field Previous experience: A minimum of two years / seasons of applicable internships or in-field experience working in communications, public relations, media relations or sports Technology Capabilities: Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign and the ability to create and publish Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint & SharePoint Knowledge, skills, abilities: Detail oriented, self-starter with interest to learn in a fast-paced, high-profile, dynamic environment Outstanding organizational skills and elevated standards to plan and execute logistics and experiences flawlessly Excellent writing skills with an eye for grammar, spelling, thoughtful story creation and AP style Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with all levels of the team and league Ability and interest to operate at the speed of the 24-hr news cycle Proven experience successfully coordinating rapid response efforts On-scene problem solving ability to make tough, quality decisions in a fast-paced and high-stress environment Knowledge and interest in editorial media and the changing journalism landscape Sound judgement and utmost professionalism to publicly represent a premium legacy brand and organization Strong presentation and public engagement skills Demonstrated ability to adhere to the highest ethical code Knowledge of the NBA’s G League landscape and the Coachella Valley Lakers team A passion for basketball and professional sports Physical Demands: Ability to lift 25 lbs. and a significant amount of walking on game day Location: Greater Palm Springs (Acrisure Arena for Coachella Valley Lakers home games); El Segundo (UCLA Health Training Center) for select needs The pay range for this role is $20.00 to $23.00 per hour. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and certifications. In addition to those factors, we consider the relative pay of our current employees in similar positions when making a final offer.
