This posting serves as a Talent Pipeline for incoming Paramedics who are interested in working for the Hennepin EMS department. A $5,000 hiring incentive is available for eligible external candidates (contract/temporary workers and former employees returning to HHS within one year are ineligible). Hennepin EMS is an Urban/Suburban, 9-1-1 only, Emergency Medical Services agency that handles approximately 100,000 calls for service each year from the citizens and visitors of Hennepin County, Minnesota. We are based at Hennepin County Medical Center in Downtown Minneapolis and serve 14 municipalities within Hennepin County, covering 266 square miles and a population of over 700,000. Our goal is to deliver quality service to our customers with a courteous and immediate response while modeling the highest standard for excellence in public safety.The Paramedic position is responsible for responding to requests for emergency medical services and for providing Basic and Advanced Life Support to sick and injured persons at emergency scenes and during transport to a health care facility. Schedules are bid based on seniority and are currently either four 10-hour shifts per week or three shifts per week of 14, 13 and 13 hours. Multiple start times are available for day/evening/night including rotating weekends and holidays based on department needs. This position is benefit-eligible, including PERA and P&F Pension, and represented by the HCAPE union. Paramedics will be given credit for previous Paramedic experience when calculating starting hourly pay rate. Each step below indicates the step for years of experience (max 10 years experience = step 10).* Starting - $31.54 Step 1 - $32.81 Step 2 - $34.17 Step 3 - $35.61 Step 4 - $37.10 Step 5 - $38.67 Step 6 - $40.28 Step 7 - $41.98 Step 8 - $43.75 Step 9 - $45.59 Step 10 - $48.33 Other Benefits: All uniforms are provided upon hire with a $700 annual uniform allowance following one year of employment. Continuing Education provided via internal in person training, on-demand virtual classes and a $375 annual education allowance. Dual Paramedic Ambulance Staffing Ambulances on 42-month replacement cycle Overtime available for special events coverage (Professional/Collegiate Sports, Concerts, Community Events) Opportunity for extra training to join Special Teams (Advanced Paramedic, Water Rescue, Technical Rescue and many more) Wage, uniform and education allowances are for the 2025 contract and are currently being negotiated.Responsibilities:Respond to all requests for emergency medical services as directedRespond to events such as multiple alarm fires, helicopter landings, hazardous incidents, FAA emergencies, and water emergenciesAssess nature and extent of illness or injury and determine appropriate emergency medical proceduresAdminister basic life support techniques using accepted standards of patient careAdminister advanced life support techniques under the written patient care protocol or in direct radio contact with a physicianPerform extrication and rescue of victimsActs as a team leader when dealing with emergency responses including the direction of First Responders to facilitate patient care and transportFunction effectively in assigned role under the Incident Response PlanComplete thorough documentation of all emergency runs and patient contacts as directedOperate emergency vehicle to transport sick and injured persons to and from a health care facilityOperate emergency medical equipment and communications equipmentInspect, clean, and maintain emergency vehicle, supplies, and assigned equipmentAssist in keeping ambulance facilities clean and orderlyPrepare and maintain records and reports according to department standardsAttends all mandatory continuing education and required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazardsFollows the hospital and department exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogensDemonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment with an emphasis on customer servicePromotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectivesPerforms other duties as assigned after appropriate trainingQualifications:Minimum Qualifications: Successful completion of an approved training program for EMT-Paramedic Certification by the State of Minnesota or National Registry of EMT's as an EMT-Paramedic Must have a valid driver's license or state equivalent and must have a satisfactory driving record including no more than two moving violations in the past three years of licensurePreferred Qualifications: One (1) year of experience as an emergency medical technician in a hospital emergency department Six (6) months of experience as an emergency medical technician with a licensed ambulance service Successful completion of paramedic clinical rotations with Hennepin EMS accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the school's Program Director Minimum of three years full-time experience as a provider of pre-hospital care in an emergency setting (paramedic level preferred) Paramedic experience in a two tiered ALS system, using System Status Management (SSM) or flexible-dynamic deployment models Full-time experience must be within one year of date of application Associate Degree (AA, AAS, or AS) in business, business administration, management, education, finance, economics, healthcare, health sciences, public health, communication, computer science, information technology, or related fieldYou've made the right choice in considering Hennepin Healthcare for your employment.
