Data Center Technician I

Position Overview Data Center Technician I – 24x7x365, market‑based position responsible for physical and Level II technical support to Flexential customers and resources. Key Responsibilities Establish and maintain strong customer relationships, prioritizing satisfaction and professionalism, and respond to phone calls and emails promptly. Monitor and troubleshoot technical issues and alarms with Flexential Infrastructure, following ERP procedures and escalating to engineering staff as needed. Perform physical security walkthroughs, administer sign‑in and badging procedures for all colocation customers, visitors, third parties, and escort them to designated work locations while enforcing security standards. Track and document time spent on tasks and support cases, including installations, site expansions, outages, and remote‑hands activities. Ensure accurate entry of Cap Labor on timesheets and timely submission of all timesheets. Adhere to Flexential Cabling Standards; install, label, terminate, test and troubleshoot cabling consistently. Execute standard operational tasks such as auditing, documentation, and report completion under guidance from senior team members. Follow instructions for hardware installations, maintenance requests, and ticket updates within ServiceNow and other systems. Maintain data center cleanliness and organization, including inventory of tools and equipment, and support shipping/receiving processes. Conduct common hardware upgrade/replacement requests and perform common maintenance/PRJTASK requests after guidance from a local project coordinator. Identify physical layer problems through cable testing (e.g., proper seating, power supply connectivity, power strip status). Install hardware in customer cabinets according to best practices, including power installation, labeling, and documentation of CLX entries. Follow safety and fiber cleaning protocols, read and perform LOA verification, and support site safety and emergency readiness efforts. Maintain SLA compliance across assigned tasks and document shift activities to ensure continuity of operations. Learn and apply Technical Operations best practices, seeking guidance from DCT II and III team members. Demonstrate reliability and flexibility in supporting 24x7x365 operations, including working varied shifts as needed. Perform other duties as assigned to contribute to a high‑performing, collaborative, and resilient data center environment. Required Qualifications Passion for providing great customer experience. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Understanding of Windows and Microsoft operating systems. Self‑starter, reliable, and dependable. Strong attention to detail, meeting commitments and deadlines. High school diploma or equivalent. 0–4 years of experience in an IT or Data Center Support environment. Cross‑team collaboration skills. Experience running cable and climbing ladders. Ability to respond to critical infrastructure emergencies effectively. Network and power monitoring experience. Reliable transportation and ability to learn quickly. Assess situations and follow escalation procedures. Preferred Qualifications 1 year of experience in an IT or Data Center Support environment. Previous NOC/SOC/IOC experience. Familiarity with DS1, DS3, Ethernet, and dark fiber circuits. Experience with data center infrastructure such as generators, UPS, DC Plant, HVAC, and fire suppression systems. Basic hardware troubleshooting skills, including replacing hard drives, memory, and motherboards. Knowledge of Windows operating systems on PC and server sides. Physical Requirements Ability to climb ladders and work aloft. Ability to work in hot and cold temperature environments. Ability to maneuver pallet jacks. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to pull and install cabling. Limited travel may be required. Work Schedule Wednesday – Friday: 6:00PM – 6:00AM Saturday: 6:00PM – 12:00AM Training Shift: Flexible day shift, Monday through Friday for 4 weeks, covering technical knowledge, operational processes, and safety requirements.
