Assistant Nurse ManagerThe University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Nursing is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager.Position Specific Summary:The Assistant Nurse Manager on Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and manages direct care nursing functions to assure that health services, medical care, medical/health professions education, and evidence based practice research programs are delivered effectively and efficiently. Positions in this job family will have direct patient care responsibilities. Efforts will focus on planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and improving health care operations, clinical and education programs of clinical departments.Position Specific Duties:Hire or assist in hiring nursing unit staff through effective and timely recommendationsDevelop and manage the talents, strengths and behaviors of assigned staff as directed by nurse managerCompletes staff evaluations, for assigned staff, on time with written, solid justificationAssure staff members are compliant with competencies, policies, procedures and regulationsUnderstand and apply appropriately the provisions in the union contractsActively help manage operating expenses for the unit by monitoring the unit's operating budgetReview financial reports and provide insights to budget variances to nurse leadersRecommend budget ideas, resources and cost containment strategiesCollaborate with nurse leaders to identify Quality Management and patient satisfaction opportunities for improvementImplement and maintain standards and quality plansEngage staff in meeting plan goalsSupervise care delivery and assist in coordinating patient care teams on the unitServe as a resource for patient care problemsMay provide some patient careCollaborate with nursing leaders to develop and implement unit/clinic or division strategic plansCommunicate with physicians, staff and other health care providers on a regular basis to promote effective and efficient operations within the unit/clinicCommunicate with patients, families, and staff to address and resolve issuesProvide evaluative feedback for staff members and health care studentsWork with clinical instructors/educators to facilitate clinical education experiencesSupport unit evidence based practice research initiativesPercent of Time: 100% Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday day shift Location: Stead Family Children's Hospital (SFCH) Rotations: Weekend and holiday call per divisional guidelines P&S Pay Plan: Benefits Highlights:Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, IowaFringe benefit package including paid vacation; sick leave; health, dental, life and disability insurance options; and generous employer contributions into retirement plansFor more information about Why Iowa?, click hereEducation Required:Baccalaureate in Nursing is requiredRequired Qualifications:Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hireMinimum 2 years current or recent (within the last 12 months) experience in pediatric critical care nursingCertification in Pediatric Critical Care Nursing is required by six months of hireExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExcellent problem-solving skills, decision making, and critical thinking skillsProficiency with computer software applications (such as Microsoft programs)Demonstrates time management, organization of workload, delegation, attention to detail and thoroughnessCollaborates and develops effective interpersonal relationships with nursing staff, medical staff, interdisciplinary teams, and other hospital departmentsDemonstrates effective teaching skills for staff and patient educationProfessional job-related experience fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed and appreciated; or demonstrated the ability to do soDesirable Qualifications :Current experience managing/leading transitions in careKnowledge of UI and UI Health Care policies, procedures, and regulationsExperience working in a large academic medical centerExperience working in a union environmentPALS Instructor certificationPlease attach a resume as part of the application process.
