A/C Equipment Mechanic Leader

Duties Serve as an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Leader, responsible for performing maintenance and repair of various air conditioning, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, plumbing, and water distribution systems. Perform emergent, urgent, routine, and preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment in the heating, refrigeration, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing trades, and special‑purpose air conditioning & dehumidification systems. Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning (HVAC) equipment and systems, and domestic water systems. Articulate and communicate to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and program issues under review, including deadlines and timeframes for completion. Demonstrate proper work methods and explain unusual or highly technical tasks (orally or in writing), set the pace, and monitor work in progress. Ensure safety protocols, confined‑space entry protocols, and hazardous‑material identification and reporting (asbestos, lead, etc.) are in place and adhered to. Monitor climate controls using the Direct Digital Control (DDC) system to ensure climate settings and actual temperature readings for Academy buildings remain within established acceptable ranges. Requirements All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Key Requirements Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Must be registered or exempt from the Selective Service. A one‑year probationary period may be required. Suitable for Federal employment as determined by background investigation. Selectee must provide a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record. Selectee must successfully complete a pre‑employment physical. Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position. Qualifications To qualify for the Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Leader, applicants must meet the following screen‑out job elements to be considered: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Ability to inspect. Ability to instruct. Ability to lead or supervise. Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how it was acquired. Knowledge of the refrigeration cycle of a variety of commercial and industrial systems, including locating and checking components that control pressure and temperature, is required. Experience may include volunteer work performed through National Service programs such as Peace Corps or AmeriCorps; qualifying experience will be credited.
