Controller - Construction Industry The Role: If you're committed to a career in the construction space and want to be part of a fast growing construction firm, this could be the right role for you. The Controller will oversee all day-to-day accounting operations. This includes financial reporting, Work-in-Progress (WIP) tracking, job costing, payroll, general ledger maintenance, and maintaining robust internal controls.Controller Duties: Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and General Ledger maintenance. Prepare accurate, monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Maintain and manage the Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, ensuring precise revenue recognition, over/under billing calculations, and percentage-of-completion reporting. Lead the monthly financial close process, ensuring account reconciliations are completed accurately and on time. Manage cash flow monitoring and daily operational cash requirementsEnsure proper coding and allocation of labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Assist project teams with cash flow forecasting at the job level to optimize project margins.Develop, implement, and enforce strong internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures to support scaling operations. Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements, licensing, and financial regulations. Controller Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred. Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong preference for background in heavy civil or general construction accounting.Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of construction accounting fundamentals, including WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, job costing, and certified payroll. Software: Experience with construction-specific ERP software (e.g., Foundation, Viewpoint, Sage 300 CRE, or similar) is required. Skills: Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, excellent analytical abilities, and clear communication skills.
