School Psychologist

The School Psychologist is directly responsible for the psychological assessment of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains utilizing problem-solving and standardized evaluations. They monitor the completion of case study evaluations and participate in Individual Education Plan (IEP) conferences and problem-solving meetings designing systems, programs, and services that maximize students' social, emotional, and educational success. In collaboration with staff, families, students, and communities, the school psychologist promotes effective educational environments.

Qualifications include a valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a School Psychology endorsement, a minimum of a master's degree in psychology, completion of a one-year ISBE approved supervised internship, and such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Professional responsibilities for all District 56 educators include supporting the district mission and values, adhering to district policies and procedures, continually working towards instructional excellence, demonstrating understanding of the learning environment as an instructional tool, developing positive work relationships, contributing to a healthy work environment, and participating in committees and special projects in support of district objectives.

Specific position responsibilities for the School Psychologist include conducting psychological assessments, monitoring case study evaluations, participating in IEP conferences, leading crisis intervention efforts, evaluating research into practice, contributing to program development, participating in Child Find, providing assistance to staff, creating open communication with families, coordinating with individuals/agencies, providing professional development, participating in professional growth activities, maintaining self-control and a positive attitude, using technology proficiently, showing good social adjustment, and performing other tasks assigned by the building administration and/or superintendent or their designee.
