Chief Medical Officer – Texas Behavioral Health Center Join our team and help launch the first state psychiatric hospital in Dallas‑Fort Worth. This open‑access, state‑funded facility, a partnership between UT Southwestern Medical Center and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, will house 292 beds (200 adult, 92 pediatric) and offer comprehensive behavioral health treatment in a healing environment. Job Summary The Associate Vice President & Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the Texas Behavioral Health Center (TBHC) provides strategic, clinical, and administrative leadership across psychiatric and medical services. The CMO ensures TBHC delivers safe, high‑quality, recovery‑oriented care in alignment with state requirements and evidence‑based practice, reporting to the TBHC CEO and UT Southwestern Health System CMO. Key Responsibilities Executive Leadership – Provide physician executive leadership, guide the development of a patient‑centered behavioral health system, foster clinical excellence, and maintain strong working relationships across clinical and administrative teams. Collaborate with the TBHC CEO, CFO, COO, CNO, and program directors to support financial stewardship, operational efficiency, and resource allocation, including medical staff budget development. Partner with quality, safety, and nursing leadership to advance evidence‑based practices, improve patient outcomes, strengthen patient experience, and enhance access to care. Lead medical executive governance committees, provide medical perspectives on clinical policy, telehealth, health information technology, and innovation, and plan clinical programs aligned with state priorities and strategic plans. Participate in facility planning, renovation, environmental safety design, and capital equipment decisions, ensuring compliance with psychiatric safety standards. Collaborate with IT and clinical informatics on electronic medical record (EMR) improvements and clinical workflow enhancements. Contribute to physician recruitment, onboarding, retention, workforce development, and credentialing/privileging to maintain full compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Oversee clinical quality initiatives, patient safety, and regulatory compliance, including accreditation, survey readiness, and response to patient complaints and grievances. Serve as senior communicator and clinical integrator, resolving care coordination issues and ensuring continuity of patient care. Perform additional duties as assigned. Clinical Leadership Maintain patient safety and high‑quality care at the forefront of all operations. Act as the primary medical staff liaison, enhancing communication and accountability across the care team. Develop, implement, and evaluate clinical policies and pathways to improve safety and effectiveness. Lead physician teams in resource management, outcomes analysis, and continuous performance improvement. Support quality programs, including suicide prevention, restraint and seclusion reduction, and safety protocols. Collaborate with the Department of Psychiatry Chair and other academic leaders to align clinical programs with the academic mission. Oversee accreditation-related responsibilities, survey readiness, and regulatory compliance. Manage conflicts or disciplinary issues with fairness and transparency. Coordinate physician evaluation and accountability to hospital policies. Qualifications Education : M.D. Required Experience : Clinical service leader or division chief in an academic medical center, partnership with both academic and community physicians, strong clinical background, track record of effecting major changes in a complex, matrixed environment, knowledge of academic medical center interrelationships. Preferred Education : Advanced degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Excellent interpersonal skills, business acumen, management experience in complex organizations, strong leadership under pressure, unwavering professionalism and ethics.
