Senior Cloud Application Engineer

Our client is seeking a Senior Cloud Application Engineer to support AWS cloud environments and the continued development of web applications used within a robotics pre-operative planning organization. This role will focus on supporting cloud-hosted applications, improving operational reliability, resolving production issues, and delivering ongoing enhancements across the application and cloud infrastructure stack.

The ideal consultant will be comfortable working across application development, cloud operations, troubleshooting, monitoring, and continuous improvement. This person will collaborate with software engineers, infrastructure teams, product stakeholders, and technical leadership to help ensure reliable and scalable application performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, and maintain web applications hosted in AWS environments.
• Support the day-to-day operation, availability, and reliability of cloud-hosted applications.
• Troubleshoot application, infrastructure, integration, and deployment issues.
• Monitor system performance, application health, logs, and operational metrics.
• Identify recurring issues and implement preventative improvements.
• Contribute to application architecture, cloud configuration, and technical design decisions.
• Build and maintain backend services, APIs, integrations, and supporting application components.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, release activities, and production deployments.
• Improve automation, observability, deployment processes, and operational workflows.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver practical technical solutions.
• Document system behavior, troubleshooting procedures, technical decisions, and support processes.
• Support ongoing modernization, scalability, security, and performance improvements.

Required Qualifications

• Strong professional experience developing and supporting web applications in cloud environments.
• Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services, including experience supporting production workloads.
• Experience troubleshooting cloud-hosted applications and resolving production issues.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language used for web or backend development.
• Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs and working with distributed application components.
• Familiarity with application monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance analysis.
• Experience with source control, code reviews, testing, and software development lifecycle processes.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize issues, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AWS services such as EC2, ECS or EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, IAM, API Gateway, or related services.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployments.
• Familiarity with containers, Docker, Kubernetes, or serverless architectures.
• Experience with relational or NoSQL databases and data integration patterns.
• Experience improving application reliability, scalability, security, and performance.
• Background supporting software used in robotics, medical devices, healthcare, or other regulated environments.
• Familiarity with Agile development practices and modern DevOps or site reliability engineering principles.
