Anesthesia Technician, Anesthesiology (3:00 pm - 11:30 pm)

Position: Anesthesia Technician Department: Anesthesiology | Location: Boston, MA | Schedule: 40 hours per week, evenings (3:00 - 11:30 pm) JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision, assists the anesthesiologist in the set‑up and preparation of equipment for surgical procedures and provides preventative maintenance on medical equipment. Assists with patient preparation and provides additional assistance during the surgical procedure. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Assists the Anesthesia Floor Leaders with various resources as requested. Demonstrates ability to organize time evidenced by completion of work assignments within shift. Room preparation (Beginning of Day and Turnover). Disposes of dirty items remaining from previous case. Clean surfaces and equipment according to defined infection control guidelines (anesthesia machine and cart surfaces, monitoring equipment, pumps, fluid warmers, Bair Huggers). Setup of necessary equipment (anesthesia machines, airway management devices, fluid warming & pressure infusers, ultrasounds, monitoring equipment, suction canister and tubing). Place anesthesia breathing circuit on the anesthesia machine and perform the leak test. Restock anesthesia carts following the approved inventory checklist. Room preparation at the end of the day (Terminal Cleaning). Dispose of dirty items left over from previous case. Clean surfaces and equipment according to infection control guidelines. Restock anesthesia carts following the approved checklist. Place unopened anesthesia circuit, mask and Yankauer suction tip on the anesthesia machine. Ensure that there are 2 unopened laryngoscope handles, 2 clean laryngoscope batteries in chargers, unopened MAC 3 & 4 and Miller 2 & 3 blades. JOB REQUIREMENTS Education: High school diploma or state high school equivalency (GED). Experience: Prior experience in a similar setting preferred; on‑job training will be provided. Knowledge & Skills: Effective verbal and written communication to work with clinical personnel, resolve problems, and properly label supplies for inventory. Physical: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, arrange instrument trays and equipment carts, conduct inventory and dispense supplies. Physical: Ability to push/pull carts of instruments and/or equipment weighing up to 200 pounds. Physical: Work with patients possessing potentially infectious disease, contaminated instruments, hazardous materials (disinfectants, gases, steam) while observing Universal Precautions.
